This Thursday (the 27th), at 7 p.m., in the city of Rio das Antas, in the Meio-Oeste region of Santa Catarina, the launch of two books whose theme refers to the Contestado War took place. The works are the fruit of the work developed, during 2022, in two Elementary Schools of the municipality: Silva Paranhos, in the Ipoméia district, and Jacinta Nunes, downtown. They are two works that assimilate the students’ knowledge through literary constructions.
At the Silva Paranhos Municipal Nucleated School, the book “Nas Sombras das Araucárias” was produced, organized by teachers Thyago Weingantner and Juliana Carla Seriguel. Together with the 9th-grade students, a narrative was created centered on the monk João Maria, related to his passage through the Federalist Revolution, up to his arrival in the Contestado region.
The work “Contestando Contos” was organized by teachers Arthur Luiz Peixer, Anderson Nathan Gonçalves Ferreira and Leonardo Guerreiro de Andrade, who combined the subjects of History, Portuguese Language and Art in the production of psychological tales set in the same conflict. They are fictional characters that resemble trajectories of the caboclo world and build general characteristics of the Contestado people. In addition to the tales, the book is entirely illustrated by the students with perceptions about the caboclo movement, bringing interpretations of the movement that occurred at the beginning of the 20th century.
Some of these tales were selected and turned into three short films, launched on April 26, produced through the Curtas Contestados Project, coordinated by teacher Arthur Luiz Peixer. Since 2019, the project has enabled the production of eight short films with 9th-grade Elementary School students. The 3 films resulting from the project are: “A Carta Histórica“, created by student Guilherme Pierdoná. The story tells of a mysterious letter written during the Contestado War, narrating events from the arrival of the railway to the coming of a famous hermit herb healer.
The second short is called “A Vingança de um Caboclo“, written by student Nykolas Heckel. It tells the story of Marta and Wilfredo, persecuted by Colonel Joseff, suffering from expulsion and the violence employed by the coronelista militias, unleashing an unprecedented struggle.
The last short is called “O Lenço Azul“, written by student Natália Ferreira, telling the story of an impossible love amid the pains of a historical conflict in southern Brazil. Its developments show the difficulties and sacrifices on both sides of the war.
And to open this event, we will also have the launch of the music video “Lamento Incontestável“, produced by the students of the 2022 Graduating 9th-Grade Class. The song is by the band Vilmem, and resulted from the musical project “Ritmo Contestado” developed in the city of Porto União/SC, where teacher Arthur Luiz Peixer took part as a curator regarding the elements of Contestado History present in the project. The video was produced by the students, who conceived the scenes and the interpretation of the song.
