Chica Pelega Film Festival
The Chica Pelega Film Festival is a Santa Catarina festival devoted to the memory and culture of the Contestado — the caboclo, Indigenous and quilombola history of the Santa Catarina backlands. Born in Joaçaba in 2021, it is named after Francisca Roberta, "Chica Pelega", a leader and fighter of the Contestado War.
With each edition — from Contestado in Focus to the Quilombola edition and Contemporary Migrations — cinema becomes a classroom and a space for conversation in schools, communities and venues across the state. The tag next to each name marks the year that person took part.
