The livestream Quilombola Struggle at the Chica Pelega Film Festival, moderated by Edson Lopes Camargo, took place on Saturday, 07/15, on the Pupilo TV YouTube channel. The programme featured the three films produced by the Invernada dos Negros and Campo dos Poli Remaining Quilombo Communities during the O minuto que foi workshop, led by filmmaker Yasser Socarrás González. The workshop was a counterpart of the festival, and over two days Yasser shared theoretical and practical knowledge about filmmaking with each community.
Right after the films were shown, community leaders talked with Yasser about the processes during the workshops and what it was like to live that experience. It was an extremely rich encounter, and we leave the livestream below for you to check out this conversation full of knowledge exchange.
About Edson Lopes Camargo
He worked in commerce in Campos Novos and in municipal politics, seeking ways to improve the lives of local people. He always sought to reclaim his family’s origins; from November 20, 2015, he became the main leader of the Invernada dos Negros community, working against the agribusiness expanding into his community. Together with the Unified Black Movement of SC, he sought knowledge, being on many occasions in Florianópolis, Brasília, Bahia and several other Brazilian states, extending the community’s struggle to the national and international level, bringing and meeting leaders from various countries for exchange and sharing of experiences, but above all bringing hope to the Quilombola communities of Santa Catarina.
