Edson Camargo, who is part of the Quilombola Curatorial Committee of the 3rd Chica Pelega Film Festival together with other leaders and members of remaining quilombo communities, visited Rádio UNOESC FM 106.7 and talked with Fernanda Mingori about details of this edition of the Festival, taking place now in July 2023. About Edson Camargo
He worked in commerce in Campos Novos and in municipal politics, seeking ways to improve the lives of local people. He always sought to reclaim his family’s origins; from November 20, 2015, he became the main leader of the Invernada dos Negros community, working against the agribusiness expanding into his community. Together with the Unified Black Movement of SC, he sought knowledge, being on many occasions in Florianópolis, Brasília, Bahia and several other Brazilian states, extending the community’s struggle to the national and international level, bringing and meeting leaders from various countries for exchange and sharing of experiences, but above all bringing hope to the Quilombola communities of Santa Catarina.
