The 2nd Chica Pelega Film Festival — The Contestado in Focus closed its 2022 run with a remarkable reach: more than 1,700 viewers attended the free sessions in five cities of the Meio-Oeste region of Santa Catarina, with the participation of 29 educational institutions from the municipal, state, youth-and-adult and higher-education networks.
Selected in the Aldir Blanc 2021 Culture Incentive Call — carried out with federal funds through the Catarinense Culture Foundation — the Festival brought to the Cine Lúmine theaters a programme about the memory of the Contestado, Caboclo identity and Indigenous resistance, always followed by a discussion.

The school sessions, held in the morning and afternoon, welcomed scheduled classes from schools across the region; in the evenings, the sessions open to the public screened the feature Terra Cabocla for the community. Among the titles presented were the shorts Kiki – O Ritual da Resistência Kaingang, Irani, Olhar Contestado and Larfiagem, as well as the online screening of the documentary Memorável Trem de Ferro, available throughout the Festival.
More than numbers, the 2nd Festival consolidated cinema as a classroom and a meeting place: each screening opened conversations with students and community about territory, belonging and the many stories of the Contestado. One of the highlights was the debate in Curitibanos, in partnership with UFSC, with historian Paulo Pinheiro Machado, a national reference in Contestado War studies.
